The road enters Littlebredy between the posts of a former tollgate, there is an Ordnance Survey benchmark on the right-hand post (see Image). According to the Journals of the House of Commons (Vol 36, 1803. http://tinyurl.com/7yeoe2q ) this toll-road would have been a 'spur' running from Winterbourne Steepleton to join the main turnpikes at Portesham.
