View northward, towards Gloucester and the North: ex-Midland Birmingham - Bristol main line, running parallel with the ex-GW Gloucester etc. - Swindon main line. The 'Devonian', the crack North-East - South-West express, left Bradford Forster Square at 09.20 and eventually reached Kingswear at 20.40. Here ex-Midland Johnson/Deeley 2P 4-4-0 No. 530 (later 40530, withdrawn 1/51) is piloting Stanier 'Jubilee' 6P 4-6-0 No. 45739 'Ulster' (built 1936, withdrawn 1/67) on a heavy train made up partly of GWR coaches.
