Thornton Heath is one of the most ethnically-mixed areas of Croydon. Around the corner from this graffiti is a shop specialising in phone calls to Pakistan, then a solicitor specialising in immigration, a nail-bar, a corner shop stocking various ethnic foods, another nail-bar, an Afro-Caribbean hairdresser’s – and so on. (See Image) It’s quite possible that whoever wrote this is the descendant of people who were on the receiving end of anti-immigrant prejudice themselves.... Footnote: by the end of the week in which this appeared, it had been painted out.
