The station was known as Lydd Station until 1937 when Lydd-on-Sea station was opened and "Town" was added to its name. The level crossing was added in the early 1960s to cater for heavy construction traffic bound for Dungeness Nuclear Power Station (whose buildings can be seen on the horizon in this view). The brick goods shed still stands in the former goods yard and looks in better condition than the station building.
