Originally a track that branched of the Dyke Road towards the chalybeate spring in St Ann's Well Gardens. By the early 1820s it had been extended as a coach road to West Blatchington and during the 1840s it had been developed into a residential area retaining a number of its original early Victorian houses. These days it links Dyke Road to Montpelier Road.
