The twenty-one lock flight down to Aldersley Junction (with the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal) starts here, and the Birmingham Canal Navigation main line continues behind the camera as far as the three Smethwick Locks at Sandwell, then into Birmingham. The buildings by the lock included a lock keeper's cottage as well as a toll house. The locks lower the water level by 132 feet (40 metres) in about two miles.
