Prior to 1926, this was the Great North Road. In that year Colsterworth was by-passed and Stamford Road as it approaches Colsterworth is now just a quiet byway, although the sound of the nearby A1 can still be heard. Another reason that there is now so little traffic on it is because it is not signposted off the A1. The signposted turn for Colsterworth is further north. The road signposted to the left just ahead here leads to North Witham. This was a very misty November morning.
