There is a small boatyard (with dry-dock) operation on the right here by Dutton Stop Lock. The lock, which only raises the water a few inches was built in order to prevent the Trent and Mersey "stealing" water from the Bridgewater Canal when the Preston Brook Tunnel was built. The tug boat "Kennet" was built in 1931, and was usually based on the River Weaver.
