The path leading down from the southern entrance to Pittencrieff Park, known locally as Pittencrieff Glen. It was famously purchased by the Scots-born American philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, who gifted it to the town of Dunfermline. Carnegie had grown up resenting the fact that the privately owned estate was barred to him and the other townspeople.
