The former Liberal Club at the corner of Buchanan Street and Nelson Mandela Place, by architect Alexander N Paterson, was previously part of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. It was sold to a hotel chain in 1989 at which time there were plans to convert it to a hotel. Today it is a bargain basement fashion and homeware store. It is well worth a visit inside to see the finely detailed interior, including busts of famous composers.
