Obelisk in St Mary's churchyard

At first sight this looked like a derelict industrial chimney, but that seems unlikely in a churchyard. It is more likely to have been an obelisk-type memorial that has lost its (probably pyramidal) top and the stone tablets in the recesses bearing inscriptions.
