View NW, towards London: ex-SE&CR (Chatham Section) main line Victoria - Ramsgate/Dover. This observation point was in the middle of the complex of lines interconnecting the two main lines (ex-South Eastern and ex-London, Chatham & Dover) between the various London termini and the Kent Coast, ideal for train-watching especially on a Summer Saturday; the SER line from Charing Cross via Tonbridge crosses right-to-left just out of frame on the left. The locomotive is Maunsell U class 2-6-0 No. 31631 (built 3/31, withdrawn 9/63).
