The name is illegible*, but we can see that he died in Leith in 1713, aged 66. The tool on the left, which I am unable to identify precisely, may be just a turf-cutter, or else a clue to his occupation. He was a 'metster', meaning a man who made measurements, i.e. a surveyor. * John [Wil]son?
