Some of Leith's finest buildings are unable to make their intended visual impact because they are situated in narrow lanes, of which this is an example. The open ground in front of this Victorian pavilion was built over when a nurses' home was erected in 1900, thus creating a narrow alleyway. The hospital closed in 1989 and has been converted into apartments.
