The Memorial Hall in High Street, Swavesey has the date 1914 - 1919 over the central window. Out of a population of 904 in Swavesey in 1911, no fewer than 163 men served overseas and of these 26 were killed. The idea of a Memorial Hall was shaped in the letters page of the Cambridgeshire Weekly News and found a spokesman in Major Robert Ellis who presented a proposal to the Parish Council in the spring of 1919. The hall was eventually opened on the 15th May 1924 and the ceremony continued with a concert in the evening.
