The M56 motorway crosses the canal ahead. Past the bridge and to the left is the junction where the Norton Arm leaves towards Runcorn, and (originally) the River Mersey. On the right is the Midland Chandlers chandlery and a boatyard. To avoid suspicion that I have stretched this image horizontally for artistic effect, the red/green "narrowboat" on the right isn't actually a narrowboat; it is about eleven feet in beam, rather than the conventional seven.
