This photo taken from North Street, shows the TE facing London Road. This TE would probably date from the 1950s or early 1960s when the former GPO, which then had responsibility for the telephone service, had them fitted with Strowger switching equipment. Nowadays, this has been replaced with Digital System X equipment, which doesn't take up so much room as the Strowger equipment did.
