There had been a fair amount of rain in recent days, but - after a very long dry spell earlier in the year - the conduit under the road was coping with the flow. On the same day, at the ford NE of Acres Down House (at SU 270 099) the stream was flowing over the road to a depth of about six inches - and some motorists seemed very timid about splashing through it.
