The Methodist Church was formally opened on 17 August 1836 by the Rev. G B McDonald of Sheffield. It replaced an old property on the opposite side of the road used by John Wesley in the 1780s. A school was built at the rear in 1856 which became a day school in 1862. The sundial on the end gable of the former lecture hall can just be seen on the left.
