Situated at the end of the short Town Arm, Walsall has made an effort to regenerate its canal basin with a pub and the extraordinary New Art Gallery, designed by Peter St John and Adam Caruso, which opened in 1999. The one thing lacking on this occasion at least was any boats, giving the area a rather dead feel.
