The fire of 8 August severely damaged the tramway overhead, and initially no trams ran between Wandle Park and East Croydon. Service was soon restored as far as Reeves Corner, where car 2550 is seen having just arrived from Wimbledon, with passengers beginning to make their way on foot to Central Croydon. Through tram service was restored on Monday 15 August.
