The word hobbler is defined in The Oxford dictionary as: "a retainer maintaining a small horse or pony for military service". The word is Anglo-Norman. However it has double 'b' unlike this pub's name and I mention it simply because I can find no information on dates or origins of the building. Nowadays the premises has been given a modern, wine-bar makeover.
