Once this part of Portishead was home to soot-blackened electricity stations, running on coal from just across the Bristol Channel. Now the chimneys are gone and the expensive marina developments continue to take their place. Part of the reason the stations are gone was down to the fact that they converted to oil-fired generating in the early 70's, just as the oil crisis hit. Station A closed in 1976, and Station B in 1982.
