Former pump room, Hockley Spa

In 1838 a supposedly medicinal spring was discovered at Hockley and in 1842 a pump room designed by James Lockyer was built. In his architectural guide to Essex, Pevsner describes this building as "typical 1840s, in a chaste yet formal mood".
