The Dolphinton Branch of the Caledonian Railway left Carstairs Junction by this route. In the background is the currently open railway to Edinburgh which is used by Glasgow to London trains on the East Coast Main Line. This railway also goes over the road, hence the 3.9m height restriction sign.
