The Lychgate at the entrance to the churchyard at Washfield was erected 1902 "by Edwin Dunning of Stoodleigh Court to commemorate the surrender of the Boers" http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-96853-lychgate-to-church-of-st-mary-the-virgin- .
