A good-natured crowd gathered in the Pump Room Gardens to watch the televised wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on a large mobile LED screen. The wedding day, Friday 29th April 2011, was designated a public holiday for the occasion. After the event the picnicking audience was entertained with cartoons. The brick wall in the foreground retains a ramp up to the York footbridge over the river Leam (beneath the camera). The bridge and its approaches were designed by William Louis de Normanville, the Borough Engineer, in 1891.
