Political advertising in the run-up to the May election to the Scottish parliament. There is no need to spell out the full name of one of Scotland's most popular politicians. Everyone knows it's Margo Macdonald who shot to fame as the successful Scottish National Party candidate in the Glasgow-Govan by-election of 1973. After failing to toe the party line in the 1980s, she became increasingly marginalised, but has emerged as a 'people's champion', advocating socially contentious reforms such as introducing tolerance zones for sex workers and giving people the right to Assisted Dying. Postscript: Margo was successfully re-elected to the Scottish Parliament on 5 May, 2011 [Note: Margo Macdonald died on 4 April 2014, aged 70, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Scottish politicians of all persuasions paid fulsome tribute to her abilities and many members of the Scottish public who held her in genuine affection expressed their deep sorrow.]
