These buildings used to be a former school and an attached cottage; they are now two cottages of 18th and 19th century construction. The older portion is single-storey and can be seen to the right from the road; the younger is to the left. The village of Capheaton was mainly an estate village of the Swinburne family; it is likely that there is some involvement with the family responsible for these two buildings.
