Spur off the Leeds Liverpool Canal near Wheelton

The spur was intended to be the start of a new branch of the canal, but was abandoned after just a few hundred metres either due to the difficulty of the terrain, or the growing importance of the railways. Either way, the spur is now a delightful, quiet backwater.
