This and the coloured markings set-out along the road perhaps indicate that the original route for the new flood defence is finally going to be along here, rather than the other side of the cricket pitch; an alternative route which was given planning permission last year. The instrument is actually more likely to be a digital electronic level, but theodlite makes a better title.
