The signs for the road to Applecross through Bealach na Bà (the Pass of the Cattle), are to be found by the junction of the road with the A896 road. By the time this photograph was taken, the alternative and much easier road around the coast had opened. Both top and bottom signs were re-worded. The top sign now included a warning against caravans attempting the Bealach na Bà road, after the first mile. In the background, the start of the road can be seen. It seems until the early 20th century, vehicles couldn't reach Applecross, and the normal access was by boat. It should be explained, that the white object in the bottom right hand corner, is part of someone's jacket (mine!). The original photo was very badly faded, and I've restored it as far as I can. Unfortunately the negative wasn't retained. Image
