This unusual housing development was photographed from Malta Street near Pollard Street. It is called Chips and was designed by the architect Will Alsop. Most of the building is apartments, but also located here is Fab Lab Manchester. The development fronts onto the Ashton Canal, and is accessed from Old Mill Street via Upper Kirby Street. On the top part of the building, from this direction, can be seen the words River Irwell, and also Trent. The Irwell is one of Manchester's rivers.
