The magnificent red brick building was originally built by the Bute Dock Co as its dock offices in 1897, the year the Company changed its name to the Cardiff Railway Co. The building is Grade 1 listed, and is owned by the Welsh National Assembly, who use it partly as a museum and partly as an events and Assembly feedback venue, http://www.pierhead.org In the foreground is the "amphitheatre" like area Image of Roald Dahl Plas that was built in the former entrance basin to the Bute West Dock that is now filled in and redeveloped. Each of the columns that follow the sides of the former basin have metal cages on top, are the columns some form of vent from the former basin ?
