It is almost exactly 100 years since the tragic Empire Palace Theatre Fire which claimed the lives of eleven people including the entertainer Sigmund Neuberger, known on-stage as 'The Great Lafayette'. His magician's act involving flames was the direct cause of the blaze. I'm told that the BBC is currently engaged in making a documentary on Sigmund Neuberger to commemorate the centenary of the disaster. His ashes share the plot with his dog 'Beauty', who was a present from the famous American escapologist Harry Houdini. http://members.fortunecity.com/gillonj/thegreatlafayette/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigmund_Neuberger
