A shutter door on this building in Lower North Street Image Until the early 1980’s just about every shop in central Belfast (except Woolworths and a few small newsagents) closed at lunchtime on Wednesdays for the half day – including the national multiples. An early closing day and closing at lunchtime are now almost extinct features of any shop anywhere in NI.
