The tower at the western end of St Peter's Church. The present St Peter’s Church was opened in 1844 and enlarged in 1880, although there have been at least two previous churches on the site dating back to 1547 (or possibly even earlier) The boxed pews inside the church were taken from the 1736 building, but it is possible that they may be 16th century in origin. There are two principal entrances to the Church, the main one on the western side of the tower and the other one on the south side of the nave, facing Old Market Street and allowing easy access to the stairs leading up to the tower. The tower still has the old original bells in position. The tower also houses the four-face village clock.
