The lane is the old east-west route through North Chailey that was superseded by the building of a new turnpike to the south in the early 1770s which is now the modern A272. The buildings to the right were once part of Great Lodge Farm whose farmhouse still stands out of shot to the left, which became Warren Farm by the 1950s and Grassington Farm by 1970.
