Looking at the small section between the junction of Green Lane in the foreground and the A275 being traversed by a tractor. The former is the old route across the former South Common that was moved to follow the course of the latter in the late 18th century when nearby Chailey Potteries wished to extend their operations. The old common pound was also located at this corner behind the hedge to the left which became the village pound after enclosure and was still marked on an OS map of 1912.
