Pencaitland Parish Church Tower and Doocot

Parts of Pencaitland church date from the late 12th and 13th centuries. The tower was built later, in 1631 and is sited at the west end of the church. It has 4 stages with arrow slit flight-holes to a doocot located in the 3rd stage and group of 3 small arched flight-holes on the south return. The interior of the 3rd stage is lined with nesting boxes. The bell, dated 1656, is located in the 4th stage and there is a cockerel weather vane on the roof.
