This church looks somewhat incomplete without a tower and only a small bellcote with a spirelet at the west end to break the roofline. What the reader may not realise is that this is just the chancel of a considerably larger, earlier church. The great tower collapsed and the nave was demolished; this part of the chancel became what is now the nave. Obviously, there is now no chancel arch as such. Over the west doorway is a carved panel with tracery design, probably salvaged from the ruins.
