A famous city music venue, formerly known as the Carling Academy converted from a former bingo hall in October 2005 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O2_Academy_Newcastle It was built as the Picture House in 1912, became the Westgate Cinema and later changed to the Gaumont Cinema (1950-1958). After this, it was the Majestic Ballroom.
