A view of Whifflet North junction before the A725 crossed the railway here. A pair of class 20 head towards Mossend yard to the south. A large number of freight services passed this point from all over Scotland. However the closure of Ravenscraig steel works from 1992 decimated the freight traffic as the movement of iron ore and coal for the steel making was no longer required as well as the finished steel products from the works. Just south of this location is Whifflet station which opened around 1993.
