The Memorial to King George V, at the junction of Thames Street and Datchet Road, was funded by public subscription and is from a design by Sir Edwin Lutyens, R.A.. It was built on the site of the Noakes & Co. Ltd brewery and was unveiled by King George VI on 23rd April I937. It is believed that this was the occasion of his first public speech since his accession to the throne.
