Sage is a very successful Newcastle firm that specialises in small business accounting and payroll software http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sage_Group Their new headquarters was built here in 2004 and is said to be one of the country’s most energy efficient buildings. The design by architects Ian Darby Partnership is a collection of office pavilions linked to a massive central T-shaped atrium space made up of six vertical glazed screens. The Sage world headquarters building of 575,000 sq ft provides jobs for about 1,500 people. The Great Park development of 2,500 houses and a business zone of which this is a part http://www.newcastlegreatpark.com/ in what was a green belt area of greenfield farm land outside the city was very controversial. The government gave special permission for the development to go ahead.
