Before the recent inward movement of people from across the Border, the inhabitants of Uwchmynydd and surrounding areas were almost all native Welsh speakers and as late as the 1960s it was not unusual to find adults who were monoglot Welsh speakers and even today there are still many who are much more comfortable conversing in Welsh. http://www.rhiw.com/hanes_02/llyn_monoglots/monoglots.htm
