The modern swimming pool and gym centre located on Chaplin Square between the A1000 and The Glebelands. Finchley's original Lido opened officially in 1932 and continued in use until 1992 when Barnet Council closed the pool and redeveloped the site. This new building was part of that redevelpment as is the square on which it stands. A brief history of Finchley Lido is available at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/oliver.merrington/lidos/lidos1closed.htm#_Toc2087983 . The coaches parked outside the building are on school swimming runs (my son's class were transported to the Lido on the yellow one from Holy Trinity School in East Finchley). Both vehicles are Volvo's with Plaxton bodywork - the closest belongs to Southgate & Finchley Coaches and the pink one behind belongs to Corbel - both operators are heavily involved in school contract operations.
