This stone at the north end of the old bridge of Spey marks the completion of its building in 1754. The work was undertaken by the 33rd regiment of foot under the command of Colonel the Right Honourable Lord Charles Hay.The difficulty of construction with the technology then available must have been immense. The bridge is of 3 arch design and now barred to vehicular traffic. Colonel Hay was responsible for constructing many military roads in the highlands as part of the policy of pacification following the Jacobite risings.
