This is one of three enormous and imposing ventilation buildings for the Birkenhead-to-Liverpool road tunnel (Queensway). There is a strong Art Deco theme in all the tunnel constructions. An amazing picture of these stations and fascinating information can be found at http://www.tunnelusers.org.uk/history.htm Usage of the tunnel started on 17th December 1933, and it was officially opened by King George V on 18th July 1934.
