This typically Nottingham three-storey corner shop, the Basford Pork Cob Shops, is on the corner of Alpine Street and Basford Road. In Nottingham dialect a round bread roll is called a cob. In former times the shop was a Home Brewery off-licence: the painted brick between the first-floor windows on the Alpine Road side and the space above the shop window on the Basford Road side carried the words Home Ales in green in the brewery's familiar style and its Apollo Table Waters were advertised on the painted panel above the corner door. In those days this was a sharp turn for the 41 Trent Bridge to Cinderhill trolleybus.
